I am telling everyone I know about the prospect of fuel shortages, with the express purpose of creating a panic, which will make the "shortage" self fulfilling.

You can't beat a good economic emergency.

This is scaremongering of the highest order. Ineos have precisely no intention of damaging their profit margins by stopping production for a whole month. No company would.

Their idea is that if they wheel out the scare tactics the union will drop their plans for a two day strike under pressure from the public.

More to the point, does anyone ACTUALLY believe that it will take a whole month to restart production with systems that are already fully functional and only need to be restarted?

Some people live in cloud cuckoo land.  A fuel shortage would affect us all-whether we drive or not.  Do they believe that goods arrive by magic in shops etc?

The sooner we find alternate ways to oil the better and we can tell Middle East oil producers to stick it.

Could this be another "lets bump up the price of petrol again, to pay for the Iraq war" scam or is it genuine this time.  I am personally hoping it gets more cars off the road.  Let the arrogant lazy mothers walk their children to school and their arrogant lazy partners who work less than 3 miles away to use shanks pony or possibly ride a bike, even a skateboard is greener and cleaner.  Ignore the crisis and lets get it together and walk!

I find it interesting that it is North East Scotland & Northern England that are named as places where the shortages are going to hit first since it is North Sea Oil & Gas which is taken from just off the coast of NE Scotland.

I dont drive but I realise that it will still affect me,the knock on affect of higher fuel charges means prices go up at the supermarket to cover their transportation costs.
