  1. simply the terrain. the surfboard is less stable

  2. Skateboards are the ones that ur ride on the streets or vert. Surfboard are the ones that u surf with at the beach.

oh and skateboards have wheels while surfboards dont

  3. There really is no ettiqute to street skating i guess there is some behind vert. But this is the reason why i don't like surfing at all with other people, because there are too many rules. Why do you think surfers were so happy when skateboards came out. Because they did not have to put up with other people's ****.

  4. They differ greatly.

Obviously, the stance when riding is similar, but I find surfing much more difficult and complicated. A skateboard is more stable; you just step on it and push with your back foot, the gound below you doesn't move.

With surfing, the waves are a huge factor. You have to get on your board and paddle out past where the waves are breaking before you can even start riding. This can even be a challenge depending on the conditions. Learning to ride a wave takes a lot of time and practice. Once you are up and riding, controlling the surfboard is much different than a skateboard. You can't just put your feet down and stop. It is more difficult to control turning since you are at the mercy of the ocean!

Even falling is different. On a skateboard, you fall, hit the pavement (ouch) and stop. When you fall off your surfboard, you have to be careful that a wave doesn't slam your board into your head. It can be scary when you completely wipe out and the waves are pounding you from several feet overhead!

If you can ride a skateboard with little or no effort and balance comes natural to you, learning to surf will difinitely come easier.
