  1. Both have to have ofsted registration and stick to the guidelines on staff ratios and safe premisies. Asc, cater for a wide age range either just before and a couple of hours after school, nursery caters for preschool children during the day and usually up to 6-7 o'clock in the evening,

  2. After school club is just that, a safe, fun place for your child to be after school,

Nursery is a child's first experience of eduction,

the foundation if you like for future education to be built upon.

Both must be registered providers and regulated.

  3. Nursery/Pre-school is for ages 0-5, after school club is for ages 5-12. Nursery/pre-school is like school, in such a ay as the children learn through their play. For example, role-play areas are usually set up, for example a shop, the kids learn that you have to pay for things, how to shop, what the role of different people in the shops are etc. At after school club they just find interesting things for the children to do, not always learning, as they have just come from school and probably just want to relax with their friends.

They are similar, as another person said, becaus ethey both have to abide by ofsted rules, also as of this year, they will also be similar in a way that they allow the children to do what they wish within the boundaries as new laws have come in which say untill the age of 6 children should be allowed to explore their own wants by being allowed to do what they want within the setting. For example if tables are set up with play dough, puzzles etc and bikes, scooters etc. are outside the children should be allowed to go outside when they want to and not only at a set time.

  4. Similar:

    -Both OFSTED register

    -Both childcare providers

-Both have to follow ratios and laws such as Every Child Matters, Childrens Act etc.

-Both need qualified staff to lead the session.

-Both have to plan for well-being as well as education.

-Neither are compulsory and parent choose if and when to send them

    Difference:

-After School club is just that-out of school care

-Nursery is an educational 'school' based system running school times.

-Nursery has a curriculum and targets children are expected to reach

-After School Club is open to a higher age group.

-After School Club have a different form of inspection than a Nursery-they dont get judged by education...more the care and wellbeing.

-After School club-doesnt have to keep records of achievement/learning journeys for each child.

-Nursery is usually free/government funded, After School club charges fees.
