  1. dehydration synthesis/condensation : This type of reaction is used as a basis for the making of many important polymers for example: nylon, polyester and other condensation polymers and various epoxies. It is also the basis for the laboratory formation of silicates and polyphosphates. The reactions that form acid anhydrides from their constituent acids are typically condensation reactions.

hydrolysis:It is the type of reaction that is used to break down certain polymers, especially those made by step-growth polymerization. Such polymer degradation is usually catalyzed by either acid or alkali attack, often increasing with their strength or pH.

it is just the reverse of dehydration synthesis/condensation reactions

  2. Dehydration synthesis is an anabolic process and takes place when amino acids are joined by peptide bonds to make protein; when monosaccharides are joined by glycosidic bonds to make polysaccharides such as starch, glycogen & cellulose.

Hydrolysis is the opposite and is a catabolic process and reverses the synthetic processes mentioned above.
