Can anyone tell me EXACTLY what they do for braces? Before you get them, during the whole procedure like what they do to your teeth and then after.

I want to know all the info from people who have/had them before I decide to get them :)

Thanks.

  1. before you get them they give you a xray then you get 4 molds 2 top 2 bottom and 1 more x ray and pictures and u want to get silver not clear because they turn colors and silver doesnt

first you will have the mouth holder thing put on then you will have you teeth cleaned, then they put glue on then they have a clear thing they put the brackets in or they put them on their self and they use a blue light to tighten the glue after that they get you a wire and put it through but before they do that they open the brackets(that doesnt hurt) and put the wire on it and cli them them they will close the brackets, they might or might not give you colors the first day they didnt on me...you might want to take a pain killer or you might afterwords it will not hurt as soon as you get them on but maybe 1-2 hours they might(mine did) or they might the next day i hope i rememberd everything!!!

  2. First they clean your teeth.  Then if you need bands then they place the bands on.  Bands are metal bands that look like bands they put on the birds legs and then release them.   Then you come back again and they put this cement stuff on your teeth and then place the brackets into that and then shine this blue light on it to harden it.  Then they string the wires through and then place tiny rubber bands around the little things on the brackets to keep the wires in place.  Braces can be very uncomfortable. They dig into the flesh of your cheeks and lips. You will have to go in every month and have new wires put on and new rubber bands.  Then when they remove them, they take off the rubber bands and wire, then pull off the brackets with a pair of plier things, and clean off the cement. But make sure they get all the cement (mine didn't).  Then you are fitted for a retainer, and after a week or so get it and then have to wear it 24/7 for a few months and then you are weened down to at night time only.  If I had to make the choice again, I wouldnt do it.  Not only that, you have to wear the retainer for the rest of your life, at some point only at night, but still a pain in the butt.  I would go for having the two teeth straightened and then having veneers put on.  Or there are other dentists that can put you out and do all the work and then you wear a retainer.  My sister in law had this done, was very painful, but was done in no time.
