How are calories burned?

I already know calories burn through different types of work done by the body. But how does it happen? I'm talking about the process when calories convert into energy.

  1. Fat/Glycogen/glucose get converted to glucose which is broken down further into smaller fuels. These are fed into mitochondria in each cell and used to form a substance called ATP. ATP powers most processes in cells especially muscle contraction...thus your fat stores are funnelled into muscle contraction=exercise


  2. Take a medical biochemistry course. You can't really expect a textbook in one of these little boxes. A few of the highlights you might want to google just for a taste are the Krebs cycle, glycolysis, and gluconeogenesis, but those are only a small "sample pack."
