  1. Holistic means overall/whole.

Every thing affects everything else-so for example walking which is a physical development allows children to explore (wider world), its an achievement (emotional skills) and means they can access new learning. So in that way the one area of physical development has affected child as a whole.

Also if you look at things like health-a child needs fruit and veg for the body to function-for immunity and growth---without this the child will be ill and not access daily life eg: school, socialising etc this will affect their speech, their education/development and emotional development. Children who have suffered abuse are often seen as delayed in many ways-this is because dependent on the form of abuse they have had missed out on something and this then affected them-eg: lack of food=may be weak and movement restricted-this affects most things, physical abused=child's emotions may be eratic meaning they miss out on social skills, relationship etc.

So to answer the 'how' is hard because its simply that its a domino affect-a triangle or pyramid of needs kind of situation-we need certain skills to attain others!

  2. Holistic means everything and all rnterconnected. Children's learning and development is connected, fro instance they may be using physical skills and creative skills to tear paper and stick to create a collage, or they be learning language whilst singing which is also creative. Another way to look at this is to recognise the different parts of learning and how they relate to help a child to recognise how the world works. I hope this helps
