  1. Climbs are catergorized on how well you execute them, if you get stuck while climbing or your feet slip off of the pedals, you will lose points for not being that well organized during a climb.

  3. If you are asking about pro-cycling there are 5 categories.

    Climbs with more than 300 ft. of elevation gain get rated.

    The climbs are categorized as:

    Cat. 4--climbs up to 1000 ft. (easiest)

    Cat. 3--climbs up to  2000 ft.

    Cat. 2--climbs up to  3500 ft.

    Cat. 1--climbs up to  5000 ft.

    All climbs over 5000 ft are classified as "beyond category" or "HC"

    These are just the guidelines used. Sometimes a climb may be changed due to where it is during the stage because of the difficulty that may occur for various reasons.
