How are contact sheets used and what health and safety precautions are needed in a darkroom?

  1. contact sheets are for you to be able to see your images

    after you cut your negatives you make a contact sheet, they dont have to be perfect, its just a reference for your negatives

    mostly just use gloves...i never did, but the chemicals dry your skin and long term exposure isnt good for you.

    also the area should be pretty well venilated

    and never allow the wrong type of light in the darkroom


  2. Don't drink the chemistry, don't eat without washing your hands and when finished with your chemistry, dispose of it in an environmentally safe way ... usually your school will do that for you.

    Contact sheets are the way you and your instructor can analyze your exposures and composition.  Mistakes made in exposure settings are obvious.

    You can decide which images to spend time printing without having to print them all.  Contact sheets are also used as an indexes .  using a three ring binder and negative holder sheet, you can store them together.
