  1. Medicines that are still patent protected and cannot be produced as generics cost the same as they do in the states or very close.  But medicines that can be produced as generics are very much cheaper.  I am on a blood pressure med that has been on the market only a few years and cannot be produced as a generic untl it has been on the market 10 yrs...so pay same for it here as in the states.  But other meds that I buy as generics are 1/4th to 1/10th the price in the states.

  2. because in the US, we are actually funding the research with the prices that we pay.  also, we have to buy more name brand drugs.  also, the FDA ensures us a reasonably safe product, that we can most likely take safely.  that takes money.  and the people who make the drugs simply make more money in the US.  you don't often see uber rich doctors and such in mexico.  the medical field is respected, and they are paid relatively ok, but they are not rolling in cash like here.  not only that, they don't deal with all the crappy insurance hassles, and the lawsuit costs and all that.  people don't sue the way they do here, so the drug companies and doctors don't have to protect themselves with billions of dollars in coverage...which ultimately leads to higher prescription prices.

  3. I agree with you guys

  4. Overall cost of medicine is cheaper because the cost of life is cheaper compered to the US, so although Name brands cover cost of research they cant sell it as expensive because of the cost of living.

Also Mexico does not have the same insurance costs for medicine, you can go through "Seguro Social" which is the medicine covered by insurance, but medicine is not good most of the times or isnt available.

A lot of people go directly to their doctor and get a prescription and get medicine. So there is no insurance company paying for part of the medicine like in the US.

I think most of the drug companies charge more in the US because they can.

  5. Here there are lots of marihuana plantations, in chiapas and Oaxaca there are mushrums, so we have plenty of it. There is lots of it. :)

  6. Because duh!, mexico is like one of the most drug producers in the world! besides colombia. THATS WHY THEY SELL IT SO CHEAP!   They can easily grab the generics at any pharmacy, all they have to do is manufactor the drugs correctly.

  7. Part of the reason is that the legislation in Mexico is a little easier to produce "generic" medicine.  In fact they even have pharmacies that specialize on selling "generic" only products.

In theory the name brands have to cover not only the cost of the production but their cost in Research and Development, including having to pass the certifications and licenses.

The genetic manufacturers take the formulas already created by the large laboratories and the "only" thing they have to do is to produce it to the required specifications.
