How are friends on Facebook, on a persons profile sorted. ?

Like, when you go on their profiles and you see their friends, and its just the first like 8 or so, but its not a top friends application, how does Facebook sort those? By adding date? By ammount of veiws their page gets? It's sort of important to know. My boyfriends ex girlfriend was his number 1 and I was 2, so I wanted to know if it was something with Facebook, or something to do with him.

It's random.

It's random if it's on the profile page.  You'll notice it changes every time you go to that person's page.

It's only not random if a person has a Top Friends application and puts people on that.
