  1. They can be used to for ice core samples to determine the earth's climate record. They are also considered a demonstration of the "extreme" of climate change for a number of reasons, as the temperature changes at the poles are more extreme than those closer to the equator.


  2. By drilling cores out of the ice we can find out about climatic conditions in the past .

    Also many things are frozen in the ice that give information.

    Now with a lot of glaziers melting many things are revealed ,that other wise would have remained hidden.
