  1. Traditionally it was done through selective breeding.  That is why Kentucky Derby winners get the big $$$ for their stud services.

But now with science and genetics,  they can do gene splicing and cloning of horses with desired traits.

  2. It's done through breeding. Maybe through s***n collection and artificial insemination, but breeding none the less.

It's the same way we breed certain characteristics in dogs to get different breeds and the same way botanists manipulate characteristics in plants and flowers to get certain shapes and colors.

Genetic manipulation isn't always done in a petri dish in a lab

Did you know that the corn we know and love today is genetically engineered?  The original plant was very small, like the baby corn we eat today.  Native Americans took this original, small corn and cross pollinated it with larger and larger ears to get what we recognize today.

  3. i believe they are the intermediary animals in insulin production.. so at least some chemical production similar to that of insulin

  4. hiiiiiiii,

Genetic engineering is a process that artificially manipulates the genes of an organism in ways that supercede the manner in which nature could work if unaided. To be effective, this form of engineering requires the use of highly sophisticated technologies that can alter genetic makeup and can even take newly created samples and transplant them into completely distinct organisms. Since genes are the primary source of traits and characteristics, transplanting them equates to introducing a new combination of traits to the host.

Such unimpeded ability to cross biological borders of breed or species can result in the development of novel organisms that know no natural predecessors. Cautionary observers of this scientific field warn that, although it bears a resemblance to traditional plant and animal breeding, genetic engineering is, in fact, a radically different procedure. For example, whereas for generations man has had the ability to make hybrids of horses by cross-breeding two different types, it is only now through genetic engineering that he can manipulate the genetic makeup of a horse by using DNA from a flower. Researchers must ensure that any effects related to these original creations are investigated and deemed benign.

    hope this helps you.......

    sorry if doesn't.......
