Hostel in Europe are just like hostels here in US.You never know what you are going to get.

If you are lucky you will find a clean one, if you spend more money you can have your own bathroom, sometimes you share your room with more people. check

They vary in size and ammenities.  Most are set up like dorms with bunk beds and bathrooms in the hall.  Some are cleaner than others.  They are a good deal for the money if you check each one out before you stay in it.

in my experience hostels are better that hotels in europe, just have to do a bit of research first. www.hostelworld.com is great for finding and booking hostels and budget hotels and many people leave comments about the places where they stayed.

if your travelling with a partner or friend you should be able to find somewhere that dose twin or double private rooms. they are usually very basic with a bed shower toilet etc but they are just as clean as any european hotel at a fraction of the cost.

ive travelled alot of europe and have kept a record of the places ive stayed so if i ever wanted to go back to a particular place i can stay in the same accomadation. so if you need some advice or want names of hostels please feel free to drop me a line.
