  1. Before exploding a building, all of the major equipment must be taken out. Chairs and desks can be left behind because they will just be cleaned up with the rest of the rubble. But metal machinery could present a problem. All machinery needs to be disassembled, and disposed of properly. If the building doesn't meet safety standards AT ALL then people won't go in there to wire the explosives. They will probable set a round on the bottom floor, but won't take the risk of setting explosives at key points throughout the rest of the building. A crane might be called in to knock it down... depending on how large the building is.

But if it just isn't safe for civilian life, then they will just go in and wire the explosives, and knock it down that way. Its the quickest way... instead of having a crane take a few swings at it, just detonate the explosives and its done with.

  2. Either by large chains of choreographed explosives or they are taken apart by machinery / workers manually.
