  1. knives and forks

  2. Here's a few metallic elements and their uses:

-tungsten in light bulb filaments (W)

-silver, gold and platinum in jewellery (Ag, Au, Pt)

-aluminium in cookware and aircraft bodies (Al)

    -copper wires and plumbing (Cu)

    -chromium on taps (Cr)

Then there are alloys such as steel, brass and bronze used for practical and ornamental reasons.  Think how much money is spent on rust prevention for steel structures such as bridges, cars and fences.  Steel rods also reinforce concrete structures.

I'd say that metals are pretty much essential to life as we know it.

  3. Take GOLD for example, is used in jewelery. Copper is used in the electrolysis of brine as an anode and silver is used in silver/silver chloride electrode in cyclic voltammetry

  4. Seriously?  Used a fork recently?  Ridden in a car recently?  THINK.
