  1. You over utilize natural resources as the soil, when for example you double-crop the same field year after year.

That is to plant for example wheat/soybean or barley/corn in the same year.

  2. if u plant the same thing in the same place evry year it uses up all the minerals in the soil, thats why most farmers rotate thier crops evry year

  3. Sprinkler irrigation wastes water by letting it evaporate. Ditch irrigation, like you see when you watch those TV shows about ancient civilizations, doesn't cause as much evaporation, but it's more labor intensive.

Just the size of commercial agriculture is wasteful with water. Too much is pumped out of aquifers and the water table gets lower every year.

  4. the biggest ones are oil and phosphorus.

the phosphorus ( used for fertilizer and animal feed) will run out in 345 years at current rates, 142 years if demand keeps growing

remember that modern farming can not run without oil, for that matter, most farming can not run with out oil.

I bet the oil supply (fuel for the tractors and transportation) will get to expensive way before we run out of anything else.

also the nitrogen dumped in to streams, the ocean and ground water as agricultural run off is doing lots of damage to fish, but that will not directly change farming in any way.

  5. The best way to tackle this question is to understand what modern farming methods we have and assess thier impact on the environment. So, morden farming methods are adopted to produce optimum output though application of fertizers whose by products might be of negative effect to the environment. Water is also polluted through these methods hence life in water is affected negatively. Soil erosion is again witnessed through rampant cutting of trees to develop farming land though cheap methods of farming by use of heavy machine. There is a lot more

  6. Modern farming methods such as No-till have created a problem with more chemical use.  ALS mode of action was a major player in weed annihaltion for the last 20 years.  Today many different species of plants is immune to ALS chemistries.  In the last ten years Roundup technology has been heavily used.  Roundup Ready varieties of corn and soybeans are often planted year after year after year.  Lack of rotating different chemistries have led to several resistant plant species.   Modern farming methods are pushing stronger and more heavier use of pesticides.

  7. I agree with all of the above. _
