How are people who get food stamps going to shop with prices rising?

What I mean is with prices rising and the food stamp amount staying the same how are people suppose to buy what they want.

I know cut coupons but after a while that will not be enough. Take a look at gas prices for example. I think people who get assistance get help but also do not.

Any suggestions? Please serious answers only.

  1. They would have to be very savvy and I bet it is becoming near impossible to do that anymore. One would maybe have to shop at dollar stores and drive rarely.

    Good question!

  2. maybe they will have to get a job.. . c**p, the thought ...

  3. I understand completely.. even though I dont receive financial help from the gov. and my boyfriend has a really decent job.. its almost impossible to live! Even if you don't qualify for assistance... you still need it! We are headed straight for a depression!

    Dems 08!

  4. Well, they could get a job.

  5. I think since the food prices have gone up. Then each person whom receives food stamps will receive more. With the cost of living higher then usual it's hard for everyone.

Yes cutting coupons is a great way to help save money at the grocery store.

Buying products we use the most only when they are on sale is another great idea.

Usually name brand stuff is much higher then store brand so buy store brand.

Compare prices and if a bigger can of yams is cheaper then a couple small cans. Buy the big can then after it's been open freeze the rest.

Plant a garden and if that's not possable because of yard space. Tomato's and herbs can be grown inside.

Having a store card that has a gas station helps like Krogers and Meijer's. Because you earn points shopping in those stores. The points can be redeemed to buy gas.

Many churches like the Salvation Army etc has food banks and those places are always giving out food.

Printing coupons off the computer is another idea.

I always give to food banks to help those less fortunate then I.

Fwiw people who receive food stamps do have to work for them. At least in my state they have to work forty hours a week or month to receive food stamps. A friend of mine and his wife just recently started receiving food stamps. I know she has to work forty hours for them to receive them. I can't remember if it's a week or a month of working forty hours.

No one has the right to judge any one for receiving food stamps because. It's not right to judge and also. None of us know when we might need the assitance. With the economy the way it is now. We all might found ourselves needing help.

  6. If the prices rise too much, food stamp receivers will complain, and eventually, food stamp amounts will rise as well.

  7. I wrote a letter asking President Bush to do what President Reagan did in the 80's. He gave away the surplus foods that are always saved for emergencies in America. I hope he will consider it. If you are too young you might not know of this. It was big blocks of cheese, real butter, peanut butter, canned meats etc. It really helped the low income people, and of course helped those who didn't (or wouldn't) work.
