Question:

How are pet owners in Saudi Arabia supposed to exercise their dogs now that it's banned to do so?

So if you haven't heard a ban in Saudi Arabia is in effect on the prohibition of allowing cats and dogs as pets outside.... Question: how will these poor dogs get any exercise?? Or go to the bathroom? What if the owner does not own a yard, I don't, a lot of people don't in cities, is the animal expected to live the remainder of it's life in "jail", because I assure you that's what it will feel like to them after say a week locked up indoors. I think this is unfair and inhumane if you ask me. The ban on selling cats and dogs I think is an OK thing to do. Their are to many strays and pets out there, there's no need to be selling anymore of them. But to not allow a dog on the street? This is nothing but cruelty to animals. Dogs need to go outside, it's depressing to be inside all day, they need to breathe fresh air, and extend their limbs, and feel sunshine on their face. If an owner is caught outside their pet is taken away and god knows what happens to them. I can't even think about what they've done with all the animals they've collected already.

*So do you agree this is crossing the line, and unfair? I'd like to know your opinions on this matter, as mine are full of anger, and sadness. I think this is sheer stupidity on the governments part, all because they claim people use their dogs to pick up woman on the streets. No matter what country you live in, you should have the right to speak to whom you choose. Religion shouldn't control your life, or your feelings towards anything, if you feel something, then it's real. People should be able to live their one life, they way they wish, as long as they hurt no others. What kind of world are we living in??

  1. If you read all three pages, it doesn't appear to be targeted at dogs on your own property, but in public places. It is a measure to keep men with pets from using them as 'babe magnets'. They are striving to keep the sexes segregated.( men and women) They also consider it a dangerous 'Westernization' to have pet dogs.

Women are not targeted with this law.

That kingdom has SO many religious restrictions concerning basic human freedoms that we take for granted in the free world. That new law is very minor compared to others.

Thanks to all that have fought for our freedoms!

  2. I don't think it is fair. Animals need to be able to be outside. I think Saudi Arabia has crossed the line. No one needs to be trapped inside. I think it's animal cruelty and someone needs to step in and tell them this is wrong. I think americans should protest!

  3. This is the first I have heard of this law. But, for the government to pass such a law, there must have been a lot of issues with dogs-cats and their owners. A government just doesn't enact a law unless their is a necessity.

But, I do agree, a dog needs exercise and fresh air. Maybe someone will open a large dog spa where the dogs can go for exercise. Maybe with a swimming pool and lots of activities.

  4. buy a bigger house or move to the US, Saudi Arabia's best friend. =)

  5. My guess is you have never been to Saudi Arabia..am I right?

You have no idea what kind of laws and what kind of life they live there, statements like that ones you just made here about religion and people living their own lives would guarantee you a beheading.

Look at the situation more from the way it is for humans for a while, not the dogs.

When people lack in certain freedoms, what makes you think it is ok to worry about a dog?

When you, as a woman, can get jailed just for walking alone to the market, there is a problem.

When a woman, like you, gets killed because she was raped and she is not longer as good an "animal" as she was previously, there is a problem...should I go on or do you get the point?

  6. The ban is only "In public." That basically means that your backyard, if you've got one, or the common spaces of the apartment complex where you live, would still be fair game.

I predict a new business for people with land, and no use for it - s*x-segregated dog parks.

  7. I have no idea. I can see not letting cats outside. That is just humane concern.

  8. well it not good having a dog locked up but if they really need exercise use a treadmill and for them to use the bathroom i guess make a room just for them to use and put news paper every where in that room turn the temp off once a week and open all the windows a few hours so the dog can smell every thing out side and hear every thing to satisfy there sences  the only other thing i could think of is to move i also read a thing you cant walk them in public so if you have friends with private property you could ask your friends if you could walk you dog there

  9. I am a life long dog and cat owner and I love pets but to tell you the truth, you really need to read a history book or take a class on the Arabic culture. I have known several Arabic friends, and it is their religion and culture to extremely dislike all pets including dogs and they have a culture of killing them in their country. Koreans and Chinese also kill and eat dogs and cats. I find this repulsive but I guess it is their country so they can do it. The United Nations refuses to stop it. there are several cultures and countries that kill, torture and eat dogs and cats. I doubt that there are any dogs or cats alive in any Arabic country. They are killed on sight. Maybe we should write the President or United Nations? It's disgusting.

  10. My first instinct would be to check out this rumour with the hoax watchers at http://www.snopes.com as it sounds like another politically motivated election year scam.  I am not relaxed around Arab-Americans due to the 9/11 hangover, but can hardly consider that the UAR would seriously try to enforce such an edict.
