How are phenotypes inherited?

Could you also please guide me too some good websites to find out how phenotypes (characteristics) are inherited.

Preferably about animals. But I don't mind humans as I could probably link it to animals.

Please do not give me the kennel club website, I tried and it was only on about genetic mutation.

  1. In any species, the phenotype is the part of the genotype which is visible. Obviously this is inherited from the parents, just like any other trait. The way that a phenotype expresses itself depends on dominant and recessive genes. If two parents have brown eyes, the gene for brown eyes will be dominant and that is the color that will be expressed in the phenotype. If two brown eyed parents (or animal) have a blue eyed child, this means that somewhere in their genes, both parents have had an ancestor with blue eyes. Since both parents have a recessive gene for blue eyes, it's possible for blue to be expressed in the phenotype rather than brown.I hope this helps!
