  1. Point shoes are supposed to be worn in a way that has your foot completely pointed, so your standing on your toes (and I don't mean "standing on your toes" the way you do when walking on your tippy toes). Or, another way to look at it is this: When you're trying on everyday shoes, and they're too small, the ends of your toes touch the ends of the shoes. In point, you're standing on the "end" of toe. You could also find someone who's on point, and ask them to explain in person.

  2. There is a board at the end of the pointe shoe normally around 5mm thick, that alows dancers to stand on the tips of their toes, but this hurts because the shoe sometimes rubs, so I wear something called an Ouch pouch, wich goes over the toes, and is filled with a thin layer of gel. The ribbons are tyed to keep the heel of the shoe on because it normally comes off coming down through full, demi pointe to flat.

Some people think that you scrunch your toes at the end of the shoe and balance on your knuckle type joint of your toe, but in fact you are actually on the tips of your toes.

  3. You're on the tips of your toes because you're feet are in the pointe shoe box.. (you cushion your toes from the box with toe pads, etc)

  4. Pointe shoes are worn with some kind of padding from lamb's wool, silicon cushions, to cut sport socks.  From there, you have to sew ribbon and elastic, and depending on your preference just elastic.  Then you put your padding in the proper place put on your shoes, tie the ribbon.  From there you dance!!!!!

  5. Yes, you ACTUALLY are on the tips of your toes. It takes a lot of strength and practice [:
