  1. Both chloroplasts and mitochondria can make protein.  Like in any other cell or compartment the proteins are synthesized on small structures call ribosomes.  Both organelles possess DNA and generally the proteins made are encoded by the DNA in that organelle.  The proteins are also usually used in the same organelle as opposed to being transported elsewhere.
