  1. Elizabeth S has it correct - there are various forms of evaluation by administration.

The most formal in my state is the stull process. We are to have an initial planning meeting with an administrator at the start of the year to plan out goals and objectives for the year. The administrator will then drop in to check to see if they are being met. There is usually a planned drop in plus many surprise visits.

Less formal areas of evaluation include paperwork issues, punctuality, meetings and departmental concerns.

At the end of the year, the administrator holds a meeting with each staff member and goes over the stull. any recommendations, concerns or even commendations are discussed.

  2. Typically there are several areas on a formal, year-end evaluation:  instruction, parent-teacher relationships, promoting the school as a community (clubs, sports, business partnerships, etc.) paperwork related issues (report cards, homeroom students, etc) and furthering/ utilizing their education.  Of course, these are generalities.  The areas may be explained further by your state's or school district website.  Also look up the teacher association or union websites for your area.
