  1. drinks in the hotels and hotel area are very expensive.$5 or more for a 8 oz. bottle of beer. Downtown,in the tourist bars $3. But if you go to a local place its 3-4 florins. And you get to meet local people. A lot of places have signs saying chinese bar/restaurant.These are often bars that do a bit of cheap food.

ie.,you can can get a stir fry for about 8 florins. It can be worth it to change some money into florins, even though dollars are accepted EVERYWHERE. For example in Chaos bar near seaport, the dollar price is much higher than the florins price.

island wide the rate is usally fl.175 to the dollar

  2. I seem to remember that The Black Hog Saloon was pretty comparable to the bars here. And they always have some kind of specials going.

  3. Steep, my friend, very steep. My advice to you is, depending on where you will be staying, to buy at the supermarkets and get one of those little foam ice jugs that they sell (you know the ones with the yellow rope handle) and fill that up with ice at the hotel. You can take it down to the beach with you and such. Of course you can't sit in the lobby with the six pack you just bought at the supermarket, but I don't need to tell you that. The supermarkets are like in a cluster in front of the low-rise hotels, you have the Superfood, Kong Hing and Ling and Sons, the latter being the fanciest one. Just ask your cabbie to point them out to you. Ling and Sons is behind the other ones, you can't miss it. You can buy fruit and snacks too, that'll save you even more if you are not all inclusive.

  4. My husband and I buy Vodka (or whatever...) at the Duty-Free shop at the airport.  Cheapest alcohol on the island!  Then, we just get mixers for it during the week we're there.  There are some ok 2-for-1 specials.  Enjoy the "thrill of the hunt" in searching for them!

  5. average you can get good deals and good drinks

  6. here's the deal: expensive at the hotels and the beach areas. Cheap at the "Rum Shops".

    Best bet for the tourists:

    2 for 1  Happy Hour 4-6:30pm La Cabana ....

Happy Hour  7 - 9 pm at  The Mill

these are the best deals going with entertainment. Even us locals don't miss these. Also try The Paddock they have $1 beers.
