I would like to start oil painting, but I don't want to spend alot of money on the paints. I know you get what you pay for as I just want to experiment a little and see if I like it then I will buy better paints.

  1. I honestly don't know of any artists who buy their paints at walmart, so you probably won't get any response on this one.  If those are what you want to experiment with, go for it!  Just make sure you get everything you need, like Turpentine or Turpenoid and dispose of it properly (don't dump it down the sink, take it to the Household Hazardous Waste facility) etc.

  2. Rowney Georgian have a great buttery texture and I really like them.

  3. They're pretty good paints.  I' ve been using them for years.  You can get them in the huge tubes too and that makes it a lot cheaper.  You can get a pretty good selection of the big tubes at Michael's

  4. I use them too and like them quite a but next to gamblin.

They are the best value for your money and I think they are artist quality.  Just have to be careful which ones are hue (they are too transparent for my taste), since they have so many colors.

  5. they are pretty good for starting out, i still use them :D

I also like using van gogh oil paints,$3-$5, their is also other ones that are good but more pricier.  But i would stick with georgian daler rowney one just for now, if you like to oil paint later on i would suggest get the pricier ones later.

  6. If they're Rowney Georgian then they're good starter/student paints. When you're starting out a small starter set is a good way to go - just make sure you avoid the really cheap ones - a friend in college had some and they brought him out in a rash!
