I know that you get ranking points in the olympics, but you have to defend them the next year, does this mean you have your points from the olympics for four years till the next ones come around? wouldn't mean nicholas massu still has points from his gold medal in 2004?

  1. I believe that next year everyone loses those points they gained at this year's Olympics, because there is no possibility of "defending" them.

    These are the points:

    Men's ATP ranking points

    Gold Medal - 400

    Silver Medal - 280

    Bronze Medal - 205

    Loser 3rd/4th - 155

    Quarterfinals - 100

    Round of 16 - 50

    Round of 32 - 25

    1st Round - 5

    Women's WTA ranking points

    Gold Medal - 353

    Silver Medal - 245

    Bronze Medal - 175

    Loser 3rd/4th - 135

    Quarterfinals - 90

    Round of 16 - 48

    Round of 32 - 28

    1st Round - 1

  2. They're not, as far as i know

  3. The ATP points for the Olympics are

    Gold- 400

    Sliver - 280

    Bronze - 205

(now it gets fuzzy... because the 3rd and 4th placed players are actually tied because they both lost their semifinal match- somehow it gets worked out and 4th place gets 155 points... if anyone can help me out with this, I'd appreciate it)

    Quarterfinals -100

    3rd round - 50

    2nd round - 25

1st round - 5 (nice to get 5 points just for showing up)

As with all ATP points, they are only on the rankings for 52 weeks, so August of next year, there could be a few rank swaps for no apparent reason.

WTA is similar, but the points are slightly lower at each level.  I don't understand that one either.
