  1. I'm going there in two weeks so please let me know :)

  2. Take a friend with you so you can travel safer. Anyway why travel at night?

  3. The couchette is a nightmare.  You share a cabin with a bunch of strangers.  It's hot, people snore, etc. etc.

If you pay for the 1st Class thing, it's expensive, but like your own private hotel room.

The last time I traveled overnight, I had a 1st Class Train ticket (so you have a booth seating with a door) and I just slept on the bench seat.  It was cheaper than the other 2 options and I got better sleep than being in one of those stupid couchette things.

  4. I live in Italy though I am Irish.

The trains are good and reliable and the staff are there to help you (many speak English too).

As for your personal safety, in short, it's the same as everywhere else - Eyes open. Keep your bags and belongings near to you at all times too. Buy what you need to eat for the journey BEFORE you get on the train. In particular, water.

    Other than this, enjoy yourself.

  5. well idk about the nighttime, but i took the train in italy that went from the very north of italy to the very south.. it was about 9 hours long because there were stops along the way. it was very fun, though a bit long. it was fun since we brought some italian food that we bought before we got on the train and it tasted soooo good!! you better bring food with you, because if youre hungry while your on the train, ur gunna have to buy food from the front of the train. nothings free, lol.

    have fun!

  6. If you're travelling alone you've just 2 options:

1.- Book a first class seat

    2.- Travel during the day

In first class both overseeing and travellers are of a much  higher level and you'll be safe. I wouldn't let my daughter travelling alone in a second class wagon of an overnight train.

During the day things are quite different.

  7. Fine, as long as you stay awake all night and tie your things to you. Otherwise, stick with the daytime-as which you also need to stay awake and keep your things tied to you. Theft is rampant day and night!

  8. Look here for different kinds of night trains: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/treni_stazi...

    I think this one http://www.trenitalia.com/en/treni_stazi...

    suites more your needs.

The best is Excelsior sleeper carriage

    http://www.trenitalia.com/en/treni_stazi...

but of course it costs more. Look at the same site for price and booking.

I mainly suggest you to avoid second class night trip on a seat. Not such a great problem with security, but really a pain about lack of comfort (second class in night train are usually full).
