I'm driving from Oakland, CA to Reno, NV...It's my first time driving up there, I was wondering how are the roads? I've been driving for 5 years, and I have made road trips just fine to LA, I just wondering. Any advice?

  1. I-80 from Oakland to Reno is just fine.  Shouldn't be much different from driving to LA; Reno is actually a shorter ride.

80 is a heavily-traveled route.  Elevations will get up a bit after Sacramento, but nothing ridiculous.  Still, it's a bit different from I-5's fairly flat run to LA.

That said, the Interstates are built to get people where they need to go; they were built to go between mountains (or even through them via tunnels), but not over them.

Keep in mind, it has to be good enough for the gigantic trucks that use it all the time.  If it's good enough for them, it'll be just fine for you.

    Enjoy the ride!

  2. According to Google maps, you take I 80 all the way. There might be traffic around Sacramento, but otherwise I don't see any potentially aggravating hazards (like steep, twisting mountain roads) on that route. You should be fine. The distance is 213 miles and should take you around 3 hr 25 min. Good luck.
