Question:

How are the spiders getting in?

I'm on the top floor of our block of flats, and twice in the past year I've had a large spider in my room! And I mean LARGE. I don't know how they get in - my window opens out onto NOTHING, and it's several stories up. My housemate, whose window opens onto the balcony, no less, doesn't seem to get any spiders. Is it just me? How could they be getting in? And how can I detract them from coming in?

  1. From Mars! ask Ziggy.

  2. spiders climb up walls they crawl up the pipe and come n through the plug hole in your bathroom.

you can buy from better ware or cleenezzee. a spider stop it contains chestnut oil and spiders don't like the smell if you spray it around your window sills it will prevent them getting in.

  3. Could be that there are bugs in the attic, and the spiders are living around the overhang and gables of the roof.  And, they are coming down through your window.  Otherwise, you have a small infestation in your apartment somewhere.  Couldn't be too big, unless you have lots of bugs.

Remember, spiders are predators.  They feed on insects.  Eliminate the food source, and that is a big step.  Beyond that, check around the dark spaces in your house.

Keep a can of spider spray handy.  Spray them when you see them.  Nothing will kill a spider except that you spray them directly.  Once the spray dries, it is no longer effective.  That's because spiders don't absorb the spray like insects do.

  4. Spiders are very good at climbing up walls or drain pipes - plus if you're on the top floor like me, I'm also guessing that birds can drop them on the roof and they'll climb down. Also if they're in the hall way outside your front door, they can climb/walk under. Plus they also come up plugs.

Another option is if you've been out and they've climbed on your bag or something that you've put in your bag in a rush without realising, they can easily be carried in the house!

For getting rid of them/detering them, I've never really known - but one thing i do is when it is raining or just rained, they like to come in, so that is when i literally shut all windows, and if its hot I turn the fans on inside. A little drastic and a waste of electricity, but I do hate spiders coming in!
