  1. USGA maps out all possible tie situations and determines a hole schedule for sudden death.  There will be no surprises to them.

  3. If a tie occurs in the U.S Open, then the tying competitors will play another 18 holes stroke play, adding on to their score after 72 holes. If a tie still occurs, then the tying competitors will play sudden death holes starting at the 18th hole, then holes decided by the tournament commitee. It used to be that you play two extra rounds if a tie occcurs after the first extra round, but it was changed a couple of years ago
