Can they defend the points at all, or do they have to wait until the next olympic. What will happen to the points?

  1. points from the olympics count for 52 weeks, same as any tournament.

that means players cannot and do not have to defend these, they are automatically dropped 1 year from the day they were earned...

    hope this helped :)

  2. The ATP does award ranking points for Olympics participation but as far as having to defend points and things like that, I don't really know if they have to do that or not. I'd google this question if you really want to know the answer.

  3. My guess is that since ATP points count for 52 weeks, in one year from now, those points will just vanish. There will be no opportunity to defend them.

Those points were just to bribe the top players to participate in the olympics. NOTE that masters events carry 500 points for winning, while grandslams carry 1000 points for winning. The olympics only carried 400.

  4. I dont think their Olympic performance counts towards their ranking points.
