The driver I have now is the Titleist 905T. Its been a couple years since I have researched drivers. My game has really improved to a 5 handicap since I purchase the 905T and I think it is time to purchase a new driver that would better my game. My problem is that I don't know which brand of driver to buy. I really like the Titleist D2 and how it looks. I hit it pretty good and it feels nice. But I also like the Superquad and the FT-5. What I don't understand is how they are different. If I am looking to increase my distance off the tee, which one would be better? How are they different in terms of feel, forgiveness, and workability? If I could get some input, that would be awesome.

  1. i have a titleist 905r great driver and i dont plan on changing it any time soon you wana get custom fitted for a new driver if you want to change to get the most out of it . the cleveland hi-bore xl is a great driver if your looking for distance they were responsible for the longest drives on tour last year aswell, i dont know what the new xls is like yet as i havent tried one its all down to personal prefrence anyway like the other guy said go to your pro shop and try a few out

  2. no just go for ping G10.

  3. Richard,

Believe it or not, but all the clubheads from all the companies out there, with the exception of the wooden heads that are still made in Louisville, Ky, are made in the same 2 foundries in China. Every company that makes golf clubs has their heads imported from China. They are all basically made the same as the next one with the main difference being cosmetic. They all basically weigh the same and have the same dimensions. If you want the best clubs for you, go to a custom clubmaker and have them build a set for you.

Not only will you pay less for the set but, the set will be made for your swing and game.

The difference between what the name brand companies and the custom clubmaker using non name brand heads is the name brands pay tour pros millions of dollars to play their clubs and spend millions in marketing those clubs. That is the only difference.

The pros that play the name brand clubs are fitted by custom clubmakers only that clubmaker uses the name brand club head that the name brand clubmaker will not make available to the average clubmaker.

    Hope this helps,

    J

  4. You have a good driver.  The truth is that it is a personal decision what driver to use.  I suggest that you go to a golf course with a pro shop and try different drivers on the driving range.  It may well be that the one that you have remains the best.

Keep in mind that what you may gain in distance can become a trade off with a lost of accuracy.  I would much rather sacrifice 10 yards of my tee shots for a 20 percent improvement in accuracy.

  5. It depends on what you're game needs. Bigger bulkier drivers, like the Nike Sumo squared and the Callaway FT-5, are for the player who is willing to sacrifice a bit of feel for forgiveness. On the other hand, slightly smaller drivers with the COG not pushed back as far, like the Titleist D2 and the Taylormade Superquad, are for the golfer who wants to feel every bit of his/her swing through the ball.

  6. I have the titliest D1 driver. I really really like it however i have noticed that my feel and touch has been reduced a bit in comparison to my past drivers however the forgiveness is unbelivable.

  7. If you go to the golf digest web page they have a thing called the hot list. It gives ratings of a lot of the new drivers. Things like price, workability, forgiveness, etc...basically all the goods that you need to know. I am providing you with the website. This should answer some questions.
