Would you say it's on a scale, like <insecure - shy - socially phobic>, or are they mostly the same, or completely different?

And can you NOT be two at once, ie. shy but not insecure? Social phobic but not shy?

And can you be any of the above but still be extremely sociable, ie. have the WANT to be social?

Hope that wasnt too confusing...:)

  1. shy adjective, shy·er or shi·er, shy·est or shi·est, verb, shied, shy·ing, noun, plural shies.

    1. easily frightened away; timid.

    2. suspicious; distrustful: I am a bit shy of that sort of person.

    3.reluctant; wary.

in·se·cure –adjective 1. subject to fears, doubts, etc.; not self-confident or assured: an insecure person.

    2. not confident or certain; uneasy; anxious: He was insecure about the examination.

    3. not secure; exposed or liable to risk, loss, or danger: an insecure stock portfolio.

Social phobia ,anxiety disorder or social anxiety, is a diagnosis within psychiatry and other mental health professions referring to excessive anxiety in social situations causing relatively extreme distress and impaired ability to function in at least some areas of daily life. Social anxiety disorder typically involves a persistent, intense, and chronic fear of being judged by others and of potentially being embarrassed or humiliated by their own actions. These fears can be triggered by perceived or actual scrutiny by others. Physical symptoms often accompanying social anxiety disorder include excessive blushing, sweating (hyperhidrosis), trembling, palpitations, nausea, and stammering. Panic attacks may also occur under intense fear and discomfort. An early diagnosis may help in minimizing the symptoms and the development of additional problems such as depression.

  2. If your shy that means you'll go out into crowds but you may feel embarrassed to talk to someone. If your insecure then you're not secured in yourself meaning your paranoid your social skills are bad and you don't want to talk to anyone because of it. Social-phobia means you're scared of small groups that just talk... kind of like clausterphobia are people who are scared a small spaces well socialphobs are scared to be in small social groups and may start hyperventilating. It is possible to no be two at once and yes you can have the want but not have the encouragement to be social.

  3. These terms are merely ways of saying the same thing. The key is being insecure [which means fearful of what is hidden within ones MIND realm]. It helps to realize that all the stuff that is repressed within ones MIND realm are "misperceptions"... which means assumptions made by ones MIND at the time of ones birth, and these were all in error, based on the fact your MIND realm cannot perceive your Spiritual realm [your Soul] and therefore could not provide you a proper identity when you [meaning all of us] were born.

    Peace
