  1. tryouts for high performance teams are super competative. i have played club ball for almost 3 years and the tryouts are what are the most nerve racking.  to prepare you simply practice, practice, and practice. also try breathing when its your turn, breathing defintely helps. oh and tell yourself "i will make it, i will make it." in your head. and it works, if you think positive you will get positive outcomes. and if you mess up once dont let that bug you. that was done and it cant be changed, so keep positive and your next play will be great!

  2. My little brother is doing High P this year, and from what he told me, it seems like tryouts are based around scrimmages and game like drills.

  3. I am a coach that regularly attends the tryouts for Wisconsin's (Badger Region) High Performance program. Your region may differ, I just wanted to let you know that not all regions work the same.

    The tryouts are usually very organized, but can be hectic if there are a lot of players. But there is a method to the madness. Just sign-up (pay there)/check-in (pre-register) as soon as you arrive, warm-up, and wait for instruction. Pre-register if you can, it makes it much easier and the tryouts can start earlier.

    Once the groups are divided by ages (Select and Youth National depending on your birthday), you are put into smaller groups. There are coaches that evaluate and coaches that run drills. Although everyone helps evaluate to some extent. During these drills you must be loud, supportive and give it your all. It is a tryout after all.

    During these drills, coaches want to see how well you control your body and how consistent you can be.

    After a few hours of different drills, there are courts set up to play on. You will be placed in a group "randomly." It's in quotes because it's not really that random.  You just have to play hard and hope to get bumped up to the next court. Of course, if a player gets bumped up, a player must get bumped down. Usually, you can see which courts are higher level players. You want to move there.

    If you notice players on your court are slow and not very strong, set yourself apart and be very loud. Be a leader and try to pull your team together. You will not get a spot if you are on a lower level court and you just give up and quit. The lower you are, the harder you must work.

    In some regions, heads of the high performance program already know who they want on their rosters before the night even begins. It's sad but true. This is due to the coaches running the program being affiliated with specific clubs in a region. You need to work hard to gain their trust and prove that you will work hard for them.

    Whether you make it or not, High Performance tryouts are a great workout and a chance for you to see the level of play from players in your own age group in your state/region.

  4. high performance try-outs are so intimidating. i went in as the top libero from my club and i thought that i was better than the rest of the other girls. but when i got there i realized all the other girls that were trying out were either at the same level or better. high performance is for the best players in your region. you have to show heart and passion when you're playing. cheer extra loud, do things that will catch the coaches attention.

    high performance tryouts are ran like camps. they teach you what they want and then you do drills that demonstrate how well you got the material. it is a good experience because you're competing at such a high level and you're learning a lot of new stuff. plus there are many university/college coaches up there watching you.
