Americans love to complain about their politicians, claiming they spend money they dont have, and pay no attention to budgets and the consequences of their decisions. .....now lets look at Americans who bought SUV's because they were cheap, and now complain about the cost of gas while continuing to drive 20 mph over the legal limit. The same Americans bought homes they couldnt afford, with loans/contracts they didn't even read.

Americans deserve the politicians they have.

  1. We do look at the short term rather then the long but - I see relatively just as many Brits complaining about Blair/Brown so I doubt we have a monopoly on complaining about our choices.  We at least have speed limits and Euros (as well as coastal Americans) have a hard time understanding that there is a lot of land here and we are not all crammed together in cities and towns like sardines in a can like in Europe. We have large expanses of land that are impossible to have public transport or even have the snow cleared quickly - that is why we often drive trucks (which are by far the minority here - most people drive itsy bitsy cars).  Try driving 20 over the speed limit - highway patrols are everywhere and that would be a $200-300 dollar ticket.  When I lived in Europe, people complained that Americans drove too slow!  We do hate crowded cities with their excess of stupid laws and crime so yes, many people have made stupid decisions on home buying and are now realizing it and these people will blame someone else and vote for whoever panders to them the best.

We do deserve what we get but that is true of all republics.  I think the difference is that Americans do not sit back and accept it so they complain, politicians hear and pander, and these get voted in until they are blamed for something.  At least we try to make things better.

  2. Paid off my house, 30 some miles to the gallon- do i deserve better?

  3. Let's see... The bulk of my net worth (~75%) is invested in China, Eastern Europe and Eurozone...Six rental properties are all cash-positive... main house was purchased as a foreclosure in 1999 all-cash... drive a Prius (mostly because of ability to use carpool lanes)...can't drive at legal limit because of traffic... no debt (other than fixed mortgages on rentals and some modest business debt).

Oh, yeah, I didn't vote for the idiot sitting in the White House. And, I am getting ready to buy some more foreclosures in the near future.

  4. When your country is perfect, THEN you can insult ours.

  5. I actually could pay off my bills in less than 6 months. I don't own an SUV, I drive the speed limit and don't drive 75 on the freeways. I bought my home years ago before they gave out these ridiculous zero interest loans until 2 years later.

  6. Not all Americans are fiscally irresponsible. Many follow common snese and live within thier means. They are the one who end up paying the mot for irresponsible acts of others including politicians.

I mean anyone who lives in a home and drives a carhe/she can afford and then saved 10-20 % of income over last decate saw that money depreciate by 20% because of other people's mistakes. We are not all the same but all politicians like wasting other people's money.

  7. Over generalizations....The bank system used to have responsible professionals working in them.  You could trust them not to take chances on bad investments, but with the money backed federally, they played fast and loose and gave loans to people they knew couldn't afford them with terms they knew the people could never keep.  Normal people aren't lawyers and they were just happy to be given the chance to have homes and the mortgage brokers lied to them and told them they could afford them.  I'm glad I have a trust worthy bank.  They won't give anyone a home loan without 20% down and without the income to afford everything they have.

  8. dont blame me i voted for ron paul
