Now that Gordon has caved in to the power companies and with millions facing fuel poverty this winter and a decision on whether to 'heat or eat', what are your plans and tips for keeping warm this winter?

Me? I'm planning on getting as many copies of Labour's 2005 election manifesto so I can burn them, because it's the only way they'll be worth anything...

  1. I lived in an uninsulated static caravan for a while and would wake up with frost inside the windows and dew on the duvet. I wore a balaclava, gloves and thermals to sleep. A woolly hat and fingerless gloves a lot of the time I was awake..

You can save a lot of money by not heating your place. Keep a low background heat and make do. It's amazing how you become accustomed to not being warm as long as you keep well wrapped up.

I was 50 at the time - no spring chicken. Not sure it would work as well if I was 80 though!

  2. staying in bed :)

  3. Lots of cuddling.

  4. Like your style.  As for me, it'll be thermals and jumpers - s**y or what?  Let's hope global warming happens sooner rather than later.

  5. Think I will join you with my collection of Gordon Browns speeches.Least we can keep warm together:)

  6. I'm planning to burn new labour mp's instead of wood or coal in my fire place.

  7. I would love to say with cuddles but i seriously doubt that happening!

=[ BUT get out the hot water bottles, the horlix and the m&s fleece blankets. this helps without spending a penny (ish) hehe!

i was staying at my father's house last christmas, and i didn't know how to turn the bloody heating on...

over here it hardly EVER snows (iom) but this one time it was blowing a gale, snowing, everything. the windows actually had ice over them. so...i got out the blankets, duvets, hot water bottles, cups of tea, thick dressing gowns and made a nest on the sofa. it helped =]

    (and i somehow survived)

  8. By stealing your muppet and making him ("it") into slippers.

  9. I'm going to be wrapped up in duvets, heavy curtains at doors and windows.  I live in an old Victorian house and it does get cold in winter.  If things get really bad though, I will use the heating and just pay what I can.  Whilst the fat cats have such huge bonuses and profits, they have no excuse for putting the prices up so high.  I'm in private rental and will probably have to move next Spring so, horrible though it is, I will do my best to manage and if I have to owe them money then tough.  I think alot of people will be feeling the same.

I have got an open fire so will get lots of logs and coal in as well.

  10. i took it upon myself to update and change my heating system. Unlike others that will wait and sit and expect the government to give them heat and food. wake up people!

  11. I'm getting an exercise bike that powers up my electric heater...

  12. chopping alot more wood this year for my fireplace.

  13. in the interests of the wider community, i intend to burn as much carbon rich fuel as possible.  The knock on effect may accelerate global warming and therefore negate the need for localised heating.

On another note, im looking to set up a company producing suntan lotion upto factor 100 million, anyone fancy investing?
