Question:

How are you supposed to breath when you run?

I find breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth helps me run farther but i'm hearing mixed reviews about this method. I'm afraid to breath in and out through my mouth because it feels like I run out of breath faster and need to stop. How are you REALLY supposed to breath when running?

  1. Heck, Abby, I never knew you were SUPPOSED to breathe any particular way.  So let's just look at this logically.

The purpose of breathing is to intake oxygen and expel CO2.  I have always believed that however you do this most effectively and efficiently will benefit your body.  Thus, in all my years of running, I've always run with my mouth open slightly - and just breathed without regard to whether it goes in or goes out any particular way.  Hydration is surely a factor, but leads to a separate discussion entirely.

    Good Luck

  2. There is technically a "method" personally i believe breathing all depends on how and what your doing. Im an athlete and i cant get anywhere breathing in my nose out my mouth. If im doing yoga i breath that way. I find it if im sprinting its way to hard to use my nose, most sprinters inhale and exhale through the mouth in quick bursts.

Every Person Will Have Their Own Method.

And For Every Activity There Is  A Comfortable Different Way To Breath.

I think its a false statement to say that no matter what, all people and all activities should have you breathing this way every time. Breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth can just not work all the time.

  3. i think its in your nose out your mouth..

i know if you breathe entirely through your mouth it will dry your throat out which makes it uncomfortable...

    hope this helps!

  4. breathe how you feel/deem best

  5. Breathe in with your nose and out of your mouth. It helps alot to breathe in for about  2 or 3 steps then out for 2 or 3. This will help aviod cramps and will help you take your mind off pain.

  6. Its best to inhale and exhale on the same foot through the mouth. If you start cramping up then you might need to change up the foot your breathing. The more oxygen you bring in the more atp (energy) is made from glucose (aerobic respiration) but when your muscles have a debt of oxygen then you go through anaerobic respiration and creates 1/17 of the atp out glucose as aerobic. In anaerobic the broken down 3 carbon atoms don't go through krebs, but through fermentation where they turned into a 3 carbon acid (lactic acid) which when it builds up in your muscles causes the soreness and pain in your muscles. So the more oxygen you take in the more energy you'll have and the less soreness your muscles will be.

  7. i ithink it's in through ur nose and out through ur mouth or u could just inhale and exhale through ur nose. U do NOT want to breathe through ur mouth when u run because then ur throught is dry and it actually does slow u down, so it is better the other way

  8. Everyone says in through your nose and out through your mouth and everyone is wrong especially if you're running extremely hard for a race or something.  Truth is you want as much oxygen to reach your lungs as possible.  That means breath in through your mouth, nose, h**l your ears if it were possible.  Don't fall for this in nose out mouth garbage because it's simply wrong.

  9. i find it easier to do all mouth

  10. If you're breathing through you're nose, you arent runnig fast enough

  11. i think it's u inhale from your nose and exhale from your mouth

  12. 2 quick inhales through your nose
