hey, me and my partner have qualified for the high school level sectionals tournament.

Is there a specific kind of racquet that will help me to win? Are there certain techniques, skills, mindsets, and overall tips to winning at doubles?

thanks

  1. Occasionaly, to mix it up, my partner and I play Australian tennis.  Put the best net person at the net and they can poach much easier.  We won like 5 points in a row doing this. it confuses the other team for a while

  2. Honestly the biggest thing is communication.  Letting your teammate know where you are and when you're going to hit.

Decide a strategy based on your strengths.  If one of you is a great net player, have them there and the other one can chase.  If one of you has a better backhand or forehand, make sure that you choose those sides to play on.

Knowing how your partner plays takes time but will really help you in the long run.

  3. The number one thing in doubles is communication. It is essential to winning.

Since you have been playing so well, I would stick with the racquet that you have.

    Also some tips:

    -Serve and volley

    -Use lobs

-Aim for the high percentage shot(down the middle)

  4. Even though singles is groundstroke oriented these days, doubles is about controlling the net.  So, winning at doubles requires a lot of good volleying and decent, but not great serving.  So good doubles teams usually serve at 90% speed to get their first serve percentage up.

That being said, club players don't necessarily do this to win.  In club level, you win by volleying yes, but also with a lot of lobs, and hitting to the middle in order to help confuse the other team.  The general rules apply, except that club players typically can't pull off the serve and volley style when serving, or the chip and charge style when receiving.

Also, good poaching helps a lot.  It helps to have good communication between the net guy and the server, and this usually has to happen with hand signals behind the net guy's back. This means, of course, that the net guy is calling the play.

  5. Usually, in doubles, the first team to get to the net, is the team that usually gets the point.  Be aggressive and try to both get to the net.  Teamwork is very important in doubles.  It is important to communicate well.  It is also important to encourage your partner and be positive, regardless of what mistakes you make.  A good partner MAKES you WANT to play better with his/her positive attitude and fighter mentality.  If you or your partner makes a mistake, you move on.  In singles a person can get away with little temper tantrums and recover.  In doubles, things can get ugly really quick.  Relax, be positive and have fun!

  6. serve and volly all of the pros do it and it is the easiest ways to win points. i do it to and it always helps

  7. For the racket, you should stick with what you have been playing with. Generally speaking, you don't want a racket that is too light, as long term use could hurt your upper arm and wrist, and a racket that is too heavy could hurt you elbow, and slow down your ability to react at the net, especially in a fast-paced doubles game!

In doubles, there are a few important pointers to keep in mind that are different from singles.

Firstly, make sure that when you serve, you are about two thirds of the way from the center mark to the alley, to ensure that you cover your entire side of the court.

Secondly, when your partner is serving, stand prepared in a ready position in the center of your service box (in most cases).

When your partner is returning, stand towards the center of the service box, but a little farther back. In all cases, make sure to watch the alley!

When you are in a point, make sure to keep the ball going well crosscourt so that the other net player cannot "poach", or cut off the ball on a crosscourt shot.

Finally, make aggressive shots, but not too risky, so that you and your partner make it to the net first. This is a huge advantage in a doubles point!

    Good luck in the tournament!

  8. first you should have good coordination and communication... mix things up.. serve and volley.. lob sometimes... and net player should be very good...

  9. The best doubles strategy is to get the the net and be patient. f you and your partener work well together you will do fine. Also try as best as possible to get your 1st serve in. It helps a a lot. Go tennis!!

  10. hmm, there are actually no kind of specific raquets that you need to use when you play doubles. Choose a raquet that you are suitable with. When playing doubles, you and your partner need teamwork. If you guys don't have any teamwork, maybe you guys wouldn't be able to win. Both of you need to have a technique within getting the ball. There are times when both of you will go after the ball and then miss it. You guys need to have the yours and mine technique. One of you have to be able to say yours or mine, so that no one will get confused who will get the ball. You have to be very alert, because maybe, your partner will miss the ball..don't forget the word TEAMWORK...............
