As far as ATHLETIC traits go compared to body size. Strength, speed, agility, endurance, etc.

When compared to other animals, how do us humans rank, athletically?

  1. you can't really compare different species..

they have evolved down different pathways.. and have different abilities and diabilities for a reason

can monkeys swim well? no why they never go in the water anyways, they are mostly arborial

can a fish run well? no they live in the water..

these are kind of the extremes of the spectrum but it's only to illistrate a point

  2. Probably under average. A chimpanzee is smaller than an average human, but is 3-4 times stronger than an average human.

Humans can climb, but in a climbing race against an animal such as an orangutan, we'd be put to shame.

In a foot race against most animals, we'd be put to shame, even against extremely large animals. I think the VERY top speed for a human is about 30 mph. The fastest land animal, the cheetah, has been recorded at nearly 70 mph. Gorillas can run at around the same speed as humans, but also outweigh us by a few hundred pounds, on average. That's very impressive.

The world's highest vertical leap is somewhere around 43"-44". A mountain lion can leap up to 20 feet from standing.

A wolf can run for several hours at the speed of 8 mph. Can you do that?

Oh, and a human can exert about 100-150 lbs of pressure through a bite. An equal sized dog can bite over 300 lbs of pressure. Large dogs like Mastiffs can exert over 500 lbs of pressure.

  3. ah, we're behind by a lot in this catagory.

Because we don't need to be athletic.  Evolution kind of cut out the body part for us, because we developed better mental skills.

  4. What a great question.  Yes, like the other person said, we're far behind.  That's why we have the most advanced brains.  Without brains, we'd be long gone in this world.  You know old tigers and lions hunt humans because they are too old to hunt the regular prey.  The only thing they can catch is us.  That's also why you hear about animals' stats being converted to human stats.  Like if we were as strong as ants or as fast as beetles.  If we were as fast as the Australian tiger beetle, we'd run at 309 mph.  If we could jump as far as fleas, we'd clear the Golden Gate Bridge. If we could jump as high as fleas, we'd clear the Statue of Liberty.  Athletically, we're aren't even close.  The best human athletes jump about four feet if that.  Your 15-pound housecat jumps about 10 feet.

  5. average speed of the man and different animals is:

fastest bird swift =160 kilo meter per hr

leopared              = 90 kilo meter per hr

lion                        = 50 kilo meter per hour

dolphin                  =  30 kilo meter per hr

walik of man           = 6 kilo meter per hr
