  1. They're not too bad. I was in coach during a trip from Western WA to North Dakota. I think it was 2 nights we had to sleep on it. It's pretty similar to a long plane ride.

  2. Actually, they are not bad at all (at least they're padded, which you can't say about the subway systems upon which I've ridden).

  3. Maybe they're not what you're used to in First Class, sir, and they're not leather.   I'd call them "Business class plus" because they're wider, and they lean way back because you're intended to be able to sleep in them.

Anyway, you'll hardly use em. Most of your waking hours will be spent in the lounge car enjoying the scenery from the big windows, or in the full-service dining car enjoying real, good cooking.

  4. No they are not bad and they are padded I rode from NY to fla.......I would rather take Amtrak than a greyhound bus any day!......Greyhound stinks, dont ever use them for a long trip......

  5. okay for two or three hours.

    how long is your trip.

  6. not bad actually, they are pretty okay. i've never been on a plane so i can't compare it to that, but they are fine enough. last time i rode amtrak we has a sleeper car which was nice and meals are included but of course it cost more. but i rather have a sleeper car for long trips because i snore and i had more privicy and i could watch my dvd player without head phones (not too loud of course)

  7. I took Amtrak from Portland, OR to New York City in coach. This was a 3 day trip with 3 nights on the train and a change in Chicago.  I found the coach seat quite comfortable, reclining with a foot rest, the width was adequate. The train was pretty quiet and sleep was possible, but was interrupted when the train made stops. Food in the dining car was very good and reasonably priced. All in all I enjoyed the trip and arrived in New York quite rested and without jet-lag. I also made the return trip via Amtrak

  8. The coach seats on Amtrak are definitely more comfortable than on a bus.  A bit more leg room and a bit wider.

What really makes the train trip MUCH better than a bus ride or jet flight is the fact that you can get up and walk around!

Unless I am in a hurry, I would take the train over a plane..  And NEVER the bus.  The only time I've ever taken Greyhound bus was a 9-hour ride from NYC to Buffalo, and it was bar none the absolute worst trip I have ever taken.  Never again!
