Question:

How bad does it look if i scored lower the second time on the ACT?

I'm applying for a scholarship at my choice college that requires a 30 or better on the ACT. The first time I took the test, I scored a composite of 30. The second time however, I only scored a composite of 28. Even stranger, the first time I scored a 34 on the English portion and the second time only scored a 25. Will colleges look down on this large gap between my scores?

Furthermore, should I take the ACT one last time? I have time to; I will be a senior.

  1. You can take this test as many times as you'd like. The only problem is that you might have to pay everytime. Just keep taking it until you are satisfied with your test score.

  2. I dont think they look at all your scores, just whatever one you scored the highest one

  3. time to hit the books and turn off the tv

  4. it doesnt matter they use the higher scores every time

  5. Take it a 3rd time and you might do better than the first time!

  6. Colleges will look at the higher score usually. Same with the SAT's. You seem to be alright for now. You choice whether or not to retake them

  7. No, they only look at the highest score, they don't care about the lower one, don't worry. And good luck.

  8. Yes take it again and be very relaxed and get enough sleep before...eat a good but light meal as well...it is your test taking skills that faired poorly the second time around...

  9. you can retake it again...

  10. i believe they look at the higher scores. don't stress out about it, you just had an off day. but i would take it again, just in case.

  11. that happened to me...got a 17 then got a 16 second time...the second time i couldnt even finish the test cause i had a silent break down.

if u do worse it means 1 or more of the following

    1. you just didnt have ur game

    2. this just proves all the more why we need to get rid of the ACT(cause anyone can do good or bad regardless if u know the stuff)

    3. you just assumed u would do better so u were more cocky with ur answers.

but to answer ur question...they take the highest score...and it looks good if u take it over and over to reach ur goal cause that means u shelled 29 dollars over and over.
