How bad is America's defense if China, Iran, or Russia were to attack? And would our military be able to hold?

Would Americas strength be able to withstand a World War from international countries who continue to threaten America.

Examples:

Are we ready to withstand another breakout in the Middle East with Iran?

How strong and effective is America's Missile Defense Systems?

How weak is our military and will a draft be required for another World War?

Well Iran has about no way of getting here. Russia we have already been through this with them. So two down.

China is the only one that poses any real threat and even then it is just through shear numbers. There technology for most of their military is still far far behind the USA.

We're pretty much untouchable.  Even if we had no effective military on the ground, our nuclear threat is more than enough to keep us from being attacked.  If we were truly threatened, and let loose the bombers and misslels, then everyone loses.  The next war, which may be going on right now, will be economic.

I would imagine our MDS's are in perfect working condition. As far as anther breakout in the middle east, maybe maybe not. It really all depends on the civilian sector supporting our operations and our military force. I don't think they would and the draft would have to emplaced.

I don't believe any conventional JCS scenario could prepare the U.S. for that. I do believe that's why it's called nuclear deterrents.

If a draft is needed our prisons are full of violent felons train them in small increments and put 'em on the line.

Those are the kinds of people we used when we won our wars. I'm not in the military. However is it true drill instructors no longer can yell at you in most branches. We can't have a pc military.

The best point of our defense is our Navy, pure and simple.  Of course there's a nuclear deterrent--but everyone has Nukes these days, the real reason no one would be able to invade the American continent is because our Navy completely controls the seas--bar none.  They are the reason we're the world's superpower right now.

It would require a draft, and you'd probably see our military be racheted up to about 20 million or so before too long, our industries would be converted to a military footing and we'd begin pumping out ridiculous amounts of equipment to outfit all the new troops, within 18 months we would be incredibly dominant.  We'd tap into our own oil resources if Iran were to start something--but as mentioned before they will never be the instigator, unless they go after Israel and we are dragged into the fray (but Israel is pretty capable of taking care of itself).

The world's economy would take serious hits if any of that were to happen--Russia and China have very large national economies, and of course the US does as well, so the world would be a victim no matter which side of the fray they supported.  Iran is a pretty dominant member of the middle eastern oil community, and our first strike would be to take out their refineries, so that would send the oil prices spiralling even more then they are right now.  You'd likely see a fair amount of international outcry and numerous attempts to work peace accords very quickly in the case of China and Russia, so it's questionable how far along an actual war would get.  If those were unsuccessful you'd see allies drawn in fairly quickly, and we'd be facing a very significant WWIII.

Bottom line is that right now there isn't a country on this planet who could actually land troops on our soil, and our current military could buy the 18 months necessary to convert our civilian population and industry into wartime footings--a war of that size would inevitably unit the American Population and they would be willing to make the kinds of sacrifices that were necessary back in the WWII days.

all they are doing is defending them self from the real threat the United states.After Iraq,Korea, vietnam, the gulf war and Afghanistan.Americans should not get too coky since most of the world see america as a threat even in south korea.

When china is buying oil around the world america called it exploitation and genocide but when america fights for oil in Iraq you guys called it liberation.

When you think all product from china is bad think again.there have been cases of bad pok and beef imported from america.and look at the people of south korea for days there have been mass protest in south korea because the president lifted a ban on american beef.

deadalump has it dead on. You people who actually compare Iraq or Vietnam to a DEFENSIVE war with China, Iran, and Russia are ignorant.

America's missile defense systems are about as unproven as any other so there is only one way to find out, hope we never do.

You should be asking how strong our military is (do I detect bias?). Of course a draft would be required, but I don't think any but the most stubborn pacifists would be complaining about it in this situation, in fact, we would probably get a couple million enlistments almost overnight. As the economy converts to war time, you would see unbelievable amounts of equipment being pumped out to equip our soldiers, seriously, it would put Russia to shame, much less China. We would probably hit a war boom and our economy would rise sharply. Meanwhile our navy is kicking house around China's and Russia's navy all th while more ships, more planes, more tanks, and more guns are being pumped out of the American war machine. While we take care of Iran with a 1 or 2 carrier groups to neutralize their economy and own their waters and skies. we would send the rest at China and Russia (I wonder how many their would be after the war machine got moving, 10? 20?) Their navies would be utterly obliterated and their pilots too afraid to take off the ground, they would face riots from civilians to sue for peace, or perhaps people surrendering to us outright. China would probably be rife with attacks from within from "political dissidants", the ones they choose to oppress rather than embrace. We would own China's coasts with our air and sea power, and then  bombard inner China, they would never be the same and would either try to get peace, or fall where they stand. Much the same with Russia, though it would be a harder nut to crack because they are more nationalist. In the end you would have a wartorn middle-east with Israel either as the dominant power or about as war torn as Iran would be. Europe would probably be unscathed, as Russia knows the US would be plenty to handle by itself. Russia would be back to the point of after the fall of the Soviet Union (maybe worse off), and China would be economically defunct as one of their biggest partners (the US) had cut all trade relations with them. Of course, any debt that the US owned China would be wiped as well =). The US would probably help China get back on its feet, as well as Russia, but they would make sure the government was pro-peace and pro trade. In the End you have a  booming US flush from a victory against a superpower and two regional powers. The bruise on America's ego known as Vietnam is healed, and things are looking bright for the Democratic super power... no it would be better to now call it a hyper power. The End... lol. i believe if push came to shove..we americans if we are threatened or were attacked we would all stand together and fight for our freedom and country.  If Iran or anyone else attacked us i would like to think that we would all band together and there will be lines at the recruitment office of every branch of the military.

There won't be any time to initiate a draft when the rocket goes up for WW III! We cannot handle the war in Iraq or Afghanistan now, imagine what it will be like when we have to take on the Chinese, Russia,and North Korea at the same time! Can you spell loser!

Well, I'd advise that you try keep your ground if the Chinese want to draw you into war. Don't want a repeat of Vietnam, do you?

Iran will only bite back at you if it is provoked, so just stand back and don't cause it too much trouble.

Russia will probably stick to sticking mostly in its' own country, sending a few troops and bombers out to provoke the US soldiers to enter at their peril.

My answer is;

China's Military is 2 million strong. I think we'd either get our ***'s handed to us until they touched down here in North America. (Simply by shear numbers) Then I (along with every other Gun Toting American) will already have our point positions picked out. And weapons cleaned and ready.

Or, if it goes too Nukes.
