How bad is Jack and Jilly...?

i've asked this before, and i'm going to ask it again after this, i'm sure.

my son's real name is johnathon, we call him jack, always have. he is 2, 3 in november. we are expecting a girl in december and my boyfriend and i feel like we've read every single name possibility there is and keep coming back to the same one, Jillian. the only thing that bothers me is people will think we purposely named our kids "Jack and Jill."

i don't want them to have to deal with endless teasing because of their names. although i have considered that they might not get made fun of since they are almost 3 years apart and by the time school comes, jack could want to be a johnny. i don't want him to feel like he HAS to be a johnny or john or johnathon because his sisters only real nickname is jill. my boyfriend insists that it won't be a problem because 'our kids will be taught to be strong and not give in to petty teasing' which i would like to agree with, but i'm realistic too.

so realistically, in your opinion, do you think this name combination will be teased badly?? i really love the name Jillian and i feel like its "right" ya know? its only the Jack and jill thing that bothers me. if your kids came home with their friend jack and he told you about his little sister, jill, what would your first impression be?

and hey, at least i'm not tryin to name my kid "NEVAEH" lol

something else i noticed is that when i tell people what i want to name her, it takes me saying, "Get it, JACK and jill??" before they realize the children's rhyme aspect of it.

my son even calls her "jilly bean" already. its so freakin cute!

would it be traumatizing to name them jack and jill, though?

  1. if Jillian is the name that you love, then name her Jillian. it's just a coincidence that there happens to be a song that includes your childrens' names. people might think it's funny, but at the end of the day they are your children and you should name them whatever you want. i think Jack and Jill are both adorable names :)

  2. Honestly, who are we to judge what you name YOUR children? If YOU feel that Jillian is a perfect name for your daughter, who cares if your sons nickname is Jack? No body's going make fun of them especially if they are 3 years apart. And if kids do, then they need to learn to get their heads out of their butt (sorry one of my biggest pet peeves is bullying and I never backed down from a bully). One of my best attributes I learned from my mom is that I don't back down from what I believe and don't let people intimidate and walk all over you. Another good characteristic I acquired be is  true to yourself and have confidence.  (i'm not saying I'm never wrong, I'm saying the more you push me to do something, the more I get firm and tell you to go F*ck yourself) Good luck and I wish you a great pregnancy and a healthy baby girl.

  3. Well, when I read it I got it right away. But like you said, his name is Johnathon, not Jackson or something, so maybe in school he'll go by his real name and it won't be an issue.

  4. Do it, it's cute.

Jillian is a cute name and Jilly could be a possible nickname. Here's the trick: Call them a nickname from the day their born(i.e if you name a girl Alexandra, but want people to call her Alexa, Lex or Lexi)and it will stick. If you call her Jilly then people will call her that forever.

And I love how your son calls her Jilly Bean! That's just too cute.

Keep with the names and maybe for Jilly's first Halloween they could be Jack and Jill!

    Good luck!

  5. no you could nick name her jilly instead of jill.

but i like the name jillian. and true jack may want to be called something else

  6. I think that if you like go for it. He may want to be a John or Johnny when he is older. I think that it is actually cute. And your daughter may not want to be called Jill, maybe Jillian. And both of your kids will have very classic names, I agree not like Nevaeh. I think that it is an adorable name. If you need middle name help, here are some adorable combos.

    Jillian Elizabeth

    Jillian Paige

    Jillian Irene

    Jillian Nicole

    Jillian Gabrielle

    Jillian Olivia

    Jillian Grace

    Jillian Victoria

    Jillian Diana

    Jillian Catharine

I hope I helped. Good Luck!!

  7. My name is Jill, and I plan on naming my first son Jack. I just love the name! I was always "teased" about Jack and Jill, and there was never any Jack around. People probably won't even notice unless you point it out, as you seem to have to do.

  8. I think it's really cute. If you are really concerned though what about spelling her name Gillian or have her name be Jilliana(Jilly on uh). You also could just call her Jillian instead of Jill. Or even Jilly is cute.

  9. I don't think its bad - its not like their twins, and their given names are 'Jack, and Jill' because that would be quite cheesy.

His full name is Jonathan, and hers Jillian. I am sure they will consider it more of a cute nickname than anything. I bet they will also love the nursery rhyme. Picture your son teaching it to your baby girl - how adorable!

If its the name you love, then go for it.

  10. Sorry, but Jack and Jill sounds a bit contrived. It proably doesn't sound so bad when you're saying to your friends 'Hey, Johnathon and Jillian', but you already call your boy Jack and you know you'll end up refering to the girl as Jill. Comedy double act names sound silly, and if you've noticed it already you better bet that other people will notice it too.

But then again they're your kids, so I guess it's up to you.

  11. Nah, do it. It's cute.

But you could spell is Gillian. so it's Jack and Jill. It'd be Jack and Gill.

  12. I think it's cute, but if you want something else, you could keep the same idea and go with Lillian, Lilly for short. But then again, you daon't have the "J" thing going on

  13. I'm not sure who you're talking to, but Jack and Jill is the first thing that came to my mind. A similar question was asked just recently. You could minimize the problem by spelling her name "Gillian" if you want.

  14. too  bad
