My x hubby just bought our 11 yr old boy World of Warcrafts without reading the box. What is this game about and what are the pro's & con's to us allowing him to keep the game? What exactly is this game about and how violent? All info is appreciated. Oh and have you played it yourself?

  1. Overall the game isn't that violent. Sure you fight with monsters and occasionally other players but there's barely any blood so I won't be concern and Blizzard keeps a tight policy about cursing, giving away personal information, etc.. Over all you just walk around in a virtual world, collect items, complete quests, play games like capture the flag, gain abilities, the game is almost endless.

The only pros I can think of is the game is a lot of fun and you can meet people online (depending on your ideal it can be a good or bad thing). As for cons, the game can get really addicting (a guy in China died of exhaustion after playing for 3 days straight in a internet cafe) and in a long term the game can cost a lot paying the monthly fee. I played it and as long as you don't play for very long time periods you should be fine.

  2. if you want you child to come home everyday after school run to the computer and sit there, doing nothing but talk to strang and possibly OLDER people while living in a fantasy world.. then nothing. ha, don't want him growing up to be that anit social...

  3. Honestly, if I had an 11 year old, I'd let them play it.  It's not that bad game wise, there's a little violence, but nothing worse than what you see in Tom and Jerry and what not.

Very little swearing, as far as scripting goes, I think a h**l or a d**n is as bad as it gets.  Players cuss all the time, but you can circumvent that buy turning on the profanity filter option.

However, if you have more concerns or questions, check out their site www.worldofwarcraft.com and take a look around and see if you find anything you don't approve of.

  4. World of Warcraft is a MMORPG (Multi Man Online Role Playing Game)  I don't play WoW myself, but I do play a different online game which is about the same (FFXI) and have quite a few friends who play WoW.  The thing with MMO's is that your 11 year old would be playing with 100's of other people all across the world, and there are langauge filters and what not but alot of the time the programmer's and designer's can't censor everything that happens on their servers.

Violence wise and Plot wise, from what I know its a very cartoony looking game where you and your partners (other players) square off against creatures for their treasure.  Creatures like dragons, and other beasts of that nature.  There's also a PvP (Player vs. Player) system which people fight each other for points.  No blood to my knowledge tho, so that's all the violence you'll be looking at.

Oh, WoW like many online games requires a fee to play it (Not sure if its monthly or what, I know FFXI is)

    Hope this helps ^_^

  5. I play the game regularly myself.  World of Warcraft is proven to help with problem solving skills in children.  The game is violent, but not to the point of blood spew, just beating stuff with swords, axes, daggers, etc.  It is an addictive game, so you just have to make sure limitations are put on his play time.

  6. The game is not bloody or excessively violent. The main focus of the game is to cooperate with other players online to take down computer controlled opponents or enemy players. It's notorious for being addicting, but placing limits on your child would easily fix those problems. And if you didn't know already, the game has a monthly fee.

  7. I can say from personal experience that this is a very good game. To your 11 year old you should not let him play more than 8 hours a day during the week. If you let him play for to long he will get hooked on the game and thats when you ned to get him help. You just need to monitor his play time because if he plays to much it can ruin his life because that has happened to people i know
