Ok I need to start considering birthcontrol after this baby.

I was on the depo shot for 3 years, like 5 years ago. I was late getting one of the shots & it gave me cysts on my overies, after that I got off of it. The cysts seem to run through my family, so I think I was more likely to get them anyway. Other then that I had no problems with it. Didn't get my period which I LOVED!! And is the reason I'm considering getting back on. I heard they have improved it & it does not have as many side effects now. Is this true? I do not plan on having any more kids after this, so I guess if it does s***w me up in the long run oh well!

  1. I HAVE 2 CHILDREN AND I HAVE THE MIRENA BIRTH CONTROL IT'S GREAT!! IT'S AN INSERT AND IT'S GOOD 4 FIVE YEARS. AFTER THAT 5 YEARS U GET IT TAKEN OUT AND IF U WANT 2 U CAN GET ANOTHER 1. OR IF U WANT TO GET OFF IT BEFORE YOUR 5 YEAR  ENDS U CAN STILL GET PREGNANT WITH NO PROBLEM. I'VE BEEN ON IT SINCE 06 AND I HAVE NOT GOTTEN PREGNANT. MOST WOMEN STOP HAVE CYCLES BUT WITH ME MINE JUST DOWNSIZED 2 LIGHTER AND SHORTER DAYS. GOOD LUCK!

  2. I was on it up until one year ago, and it definitely had side effects.

Sometimes I would not have a period, then sometimesit would last for 5 weeks.

The mood swings were something else. I almost ruined my relationship due to them.

I gained 60 pounds on the depo in one year. It has messed up my thyroid and made it slightly hypo which makes taking the weight off now even more difficult.

Anyway, the implant might be something better for you. It lasts up to 5 years, and it fits into your upper arm. It can stop periods as well, or make the flow heavier, depending on the person. Honestly, hormones that stop periods probably aren't the best, but anyway, I've had two friends on that and both have enjoyed it. Ask your doctor about the implant. :)

  3. Well if your positive about not having anymore children you might want to ask your doctor about Essure. It's like getting your tubes tied but without the surgery and it's permanent! I had it done last week in the office and most insurances cover it. All I had to pay was my co-pay of $25. It takes 3 months to become fully effective but they give you a depo or any other form of birth contol you want in the mean time. I took the depo, I hate pills and I just wanted something quick that I didnt have to worry about for 3 months. I've had the depo before and I really didnt have any side effects. It actually helped me lose weight and helped my periods become a little bit more regular. Before they were so wacked out sometimes I wouldn't know if I would even get one that month. So I've always had good experiences with the depo and I would recommend it to anyone, but like with all birth control it's not for everyone. Hope this helps and good luck!

  4. Depo is terrible!

I went on it for nine months, and I was emotional, I'd cry for no reason, I was rude, and my periods were always two weeks long.

I've also got ovarian cysts, and I only had them really bad after I got off depo.

Really, it's your body,  but I would NOT recommend it.

I'm not sure of the specifics, and I've only heard it from the grapevine so it could be untrue, but I've HEARD some women are trying to ban it in canada due to all of the negative health risks.

It sounds like you had a pretty positive experience with it, so, it's up to you.

  5. I had the depo for 9 months and put on over 2 and a half stone. Im glad i got off it when i did! That was the only side effect i had. They say it can effect the strenght of your bones but as long as you have plenty of calcium your fine! But yeah not having periods is a bonus! :)

  6. i was on depo and never will get on it again, if you plan on having no more children why not just get you tubes ties?

the reason i wont get on it again is because i got pregnant on it and my baby had heart problems when he was born, they had him hooked up to all kinds of things after he was born and in icu, it hurt to see your child like that... i had 3 other children that were born completely healthy so i think his heart problems stemmed from depo
