  1. It can get nasty but not always.  I have cared for children with it that only had a few spots so it wasn't all that bad but i have seen some that had to stay home because they were so bad.

  2. What precautions are being taken to protect South Dakota livestock?

People are advised not to travel to countries known to have FMD. If you must visit these countries, you are advised not to visit farms, sale barns, stockyards, animal laboratories, packinghouses, zoos, fairs or other animal facilities for five days before returning to the United States. Prior to returning to the United States, you will need to shower, launder or dry clean all clothing, and remove all dirt or organic material from shoes, luggage and other personal items.

Individuals coming to South Dakota from countries known to have FMD must avoid contact with cattle, sheep, goats, swine, buffalo, elk, deer and other cloven hoofed animals for at least five days. In the event that contact with any of these animals occurs prior to the five-day interval, the premises will be quarantined for a period of two weeks. As part of the quarantine requirements, animals will be prohibited from leaving the site and all vehicles and persons must be disinfected and receive a permit from the State Veterinarian before leaving the location. Every precaution will be taken to ensure against the spread of FMD to protect South Dakota’s livestock industry.

The Animal Industry Board has coordinated  with other agencies and the livestock industry and has implemented a Contingency Plan for FMD. This plan addresses preventative and preparatory measures to mitigate the occurrence of FMD and to provide response and recovery measures in the event of an FMD occurrence.

  3. Its bad but the good news is it can be treated and should be treated right away.

  4. It isn't serious but it is very uncomfortable for the child. There is no treatment for it it is a case of just letting it take its course. The only thing you can do really to help ease the pain is give Calpol.

My 2 year old had this a couple of months ago, and it was very uncomfortable for him. He had in on his hands, feet, mouth, genitals and bottom.

If it does spread to the genitals, then they need to have their nappy off for as long as possible to let the air get to it.

  5. its very contagious but not really a big deal - medication gets it under control right away and at this point its not contagious anyway -once the bumps show its past the contagious phase.

  6. What is wrong with his foot and mouth?  At least, those disformities can be treated with surgery.  Unlike,  autism, ADHD, ADD, Down-syndrome, and etc.

  7. its not bad...its a germ basically that runs its course the skin on the feet will peel for a while afterwards but it goes away..my son got this when he was four or five my newborn daughter did not get it..he got it from a put putt golf course that had a port a potty but no hand washing station....which is kinda where it gets its name hand to mouth....and my daughter got phist disease i believe is how you spell it..basically the same kinda thing a red rash that looks like lace..only she got it from a ball pit..because kids do all kinds of things in ball pits and its a hand to mouth kinda thing too..it should go away in a day or so they didnt give my son anything when he had it
