We got a national geographic movie called prehistoric sea animals and my son loves it. It has been a week and he demands to watch it contently. As soon as he wakes up in the morning the first thing out of his mouth is I wanna watch a movie a whale. He's 2. I take him outside and take him places to keep him distracted but if he's home he is asking for it. It's 30 mins long and is educational..

  1. I'd let him watch it until he talks along with the narrator & can sketch pictures of the images!

My daughter watched Toy Story so many times (with me by her side), I feel we were cult followers.

"To infillabee . . . and belon!" (she was quite young...)

What's really neat about this, is that you can mention things from the film and have conversation with your little one. When he has frustrating moments and is about to wig out, ask him, "what would the whale do?" All this can work to mom's favor.

  2. let him watch, my kids were the same one show would get them in and they wouldn't watch any thing else for ages, something new will come along and then he will change to that

  3. Don'tt worry it is a good thing..My just turned 3 son watchesWilly Wonka (1973) like 2 times a day for over 4 months now..He can dance with the best of them..HAHA.. So I would not worry he will out grow it.

  4. ya it is because you are not spending time with them

and they are not out socializing and playing with kids their age

they need to be able to run around and play

  5. My daughter has a few different movies she likes to watch and she has her favorites and she will watch them all the time. I dont see anything wrong with it. Maybe try and tell him that you are just going to let him watch it a few times a day and try and get him to watch something else..

  6. give him something else to watch i.e teenage mutant ninja turtles!! or toy story!!

  7. No it's not bad and it's educational so who cares. Kids like repetition and the love the familiar. My daughter watched "Anastasia" a million times, and my son (<2) would watch "Cars" all day if I let him. It sounds like your not letting him veg, so big deal, he wants to watch a movie a whale, let him.

  8. I wouln't worry to much about it soon enough he will move onto something else..my daughter watches...(grr...) spongebob all the time..yes she does many other things (she is 3) and she loves to be outside..but I figure what the heck...there are so many worse things she could be into..at least yours is educational!! So relax..and only a week?? please she has been watching Spongebob for like a year and still going strong...

  9. I am totally in the same boat.  If I have to watch Dora Saves the Mermaids one more time I am going to burst!!!  My daughter wants to watch the SAME one over and over.  I do not see any harm in that, they just like it.  They will grow out of it.

I mean I loved the Lion King when I was little and now ....I still love it.  Theres nothing wrong with having a child who loves to learn.  Maybe he loves animals.  Try taking him to see real animals at the Zoo or an Aquarium.

    Hope this helps...

  10. Hey, it's great. It saves you money on DVD purchases. Make sure you figure out how to continuously loop it so you don't have to restart it every 30 minutes.

  11. i can't see what's wrong in this. it's kinda funny lol  at least he's interested in learning.  if ur making efforts to do other things with ur son other then just sitting him in front of the tv 24/7   then i think it's ok.  let him watch it, eventually he'll move on :):)

  12. i don't think its bad he will get tired of it soon but if he likes it watch it with him....maybe get him some toys ( whales)

  13. No harm in it at all-- brings them comfort and keeps them from ripping everything off their bookcase for the 50th time in an hour, but you should sit there with him and talk to him about it. My son is also obsessed with Cars and walks around saying "Kachow" (he actually says "Me Kachow" from the part where Lightning says "and you too can look like me kachow!" and "vvvvrrooom" it's actually quite cute and he says the vvroom thing all the time when he hears any car or motorcycle (especially my hubby's) rev the engine but he also points out the "buggies," etc. so he's still taking in information. If it gets to be too much letting him play with things that you don't take out often (in my house that would be fingerpaints or playdoh) will most likely distract him... for the next 10 minutes!

  14. I don't think that is is bad at all...my niece and nephew each picked out movies that we watched a month at a time at least.   My niece likes anything that has singing and dancing and my nephew was a "Like Mike" fan...he still loves all types of sports...you may have a marine biologist on your hands...let her watch

  15. Kids that age love to watch their favorite show over and over.  He will get tired of it eventually and move on to something else.  I don't think there's much harm (and I'm normally the anti-TV mom whose children watch very little, lol).  I remember the last time we drove up north to see my in-laws, I bought my (then 2 year old) son 4 or 5 new movies to watch during the 22 hour drive.  He watched Cars over and over and over and over and didn't even care about the others.  I had that darn movie memorized, lol.

  16. No harm in it. Every day I let my 2 year old watch an episode of a childrens' show that I watched as a child (each lasts 15 mins). She goes through phases of having a favourite episode. We had a month of watching the one with the dog, now we're on the one with Christmas. next month she'll have another one she wants to watch every day. She does the same thing with the book she chooses for her bedtime story too...we've had the same book for the last 3 weeks.

  17. Let him watch as long as he is getting some outside time and some other activities. Don't let him sit in front of it for hours at a time. He is probably learning something very important to him from it.

  18. Just let him watch it. Do you know how many times I had to watch Cars? My nephew (he just turned four) was literally obsessed with it. We would watch it EVERY DAY. I wanted to stab my eyes out. Eventually his mom hid it and said that it was "broken" At least it's educational!
