We found our perfect house, but it is located next to the rail road tracks. While we were looking at it, we haven't heard any trains go by. I am having second thoughts, because it might get loud.

  1. It depends how frequent the trains are.  Check the schedules, or ask the neighbors.

  2. I live across the street from the rail road tracks and at first the honking of the horn at 3am made me jump out my sleep...but two weeks later and i sleep right through it...not bad at all and my train comes 6times a day.....and the fire station is two blocks away and there sounds are louder than the train sometime they both come pass my house at the same time.

  3. I used to live about 100 feet from a main line. The trains came by often and I was even close to a "whistle" crossing, every train going by HAD to blow its horn when going by.

After a couple of weeks I didn't hear the trains anymore. I even got used to the vibrations the passing trains caused.

I now live in another state but again fairly close to a train track, unless I see the train going by I never notice them.

Now, to your situation -- ask the seller if you can rent the house for 6 months. This will give you the chance to check out the "noise" to see if it's something you can get used to. If he is a "motivated" seller he should go for it. If it becomes something you can't abide, you will only be stuck for 6 months.

  4. Let me be the first to tell you that it sucks badly ,that dang train gets soooooo annoying.

  5. Knock on the neighbors doors and ask them how loud they are. Most people that live by tracks say they don't really notice them after a while. But if there is a crossing nearby it might be an issue.Myself ,i wouldn't want to live right near the tracks.

  6. I lived by tracks for my second year of university. It wasn't bad. You definately get used to them. Sometimes if it's quiet, you start to hear them come from a distance it's a little freaky cause you're trying to figure out what that faint rumble is. But then you realize it's a train and it's cool.

You get used to it quick.

Might be different if it's a location where the trains are prone to honking though.

  7. r u like the next door neighbor or several blocks away bcause if u r then it is loud but if ur like several blocks away then it might not b as loud as u think

  8. i think its cool, only if you dont have kids...
