How bad is land degradation and what are the long term effects??

i really need these questions answered for some assignment but it cant just be answers like "really bad" or "erosion"!!!!helP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Using proper land management you don't have land degradation.

a good example of what not to do, was demonstrated in the old south where they grew cotton on the same land year after year, until they had depleted the land of nutrients to the point where it would not grow anything without flooding the land with fertilizers.

Where with proper crop rotation, and planting cover crops in the winter, the land is enriched instead of depleted.
