How bad is smoking when...?

...you're on birth control? I just started Yaz a month ago and I'm 25. I know all the commercials tell you not to smoke due to possible blood clots/strokes, but then they say "especially women over 35." Does that mean that I'm relatively safe? I've been trying to quit for some time now, but I don't want to think I'm gonna have a stroke the next time I have a cigarette...!

  1. I'd say stop. If the commercials say not to smoke, don't. The chemicals in cigarrettes probably react badly with the chemicals in the birth control. It's possible it's doing some damage.

  2. If I had millions of dollars, I could put a commercial on tv, saying how great smoking is. That's all it is. Just one word against another. You can believe the rich cats, or you believe yourself. Best thing for people to do, is to stop watching tv.

  3. I doubt you're in any real danger, but if this is the incentive you need to quit smoking, go for it. THAT's a real danger.

  4. Strokes in young women are still pretty rare, but your odds of getting a stroke are GREATLY increased by smoking and taking birth control.  I wouldn't let the fact that you are under 35 make you feel that much better because it is still not safe for people under 35; it is just that your odds are that much more once you reach 35.  So, just quit.  It is only hard if you don't think you can do it...be positive and you can get it done.  People quit every day; there is no reason that you can't be one of those people.  Good luck!
